Justin Stahl / Portal
Portal was Facebook's first hardware device, a smart home display with high-quality video calling through an AI-driven camera that kept participants always in frame.
Before leading the entire Portal design team (35 designers), I was a product designer and manager for the operating system, design system, hardware interactions, and other aspects of the product.
The design team had to solve challenges such as creating privacy-centric identity models on a shared household device, helping people overcome the fears of a Facebook camera in their home, and creating an ecosystem that expanded the use cases beyond calling.
